The announcement earlier this week that Alexander Wang will take over as creative director for Balenciaga was given the stamp of approval by none other than the polymath of Paris fashion, King Karl. “Considering how hard it is to replace a man such as Nicolas Ghesquire, the best solution is to choose something completely different,” Lagerfeld told style website ModMods.
Alexander Wang’s first port of call will be to delve into the extensive archives to create a new language for the brand. “We wanted someone with global thinking, a citizen of the world, and someone who could understand the digital world and the direction of fashion and retail tomorrow,” Isabelle Guichot, Balenciaga CEO, told WWD. We await the first collection for autumn/winter 2013/14 with bated breath.
Turner Prize Winner Announced
Yes, we know it’s not strictly fashion news but Britain’s most sensationalized and controversial art award is surely worth mentioning, not least for attracting some of the countries most creatively dressed to the ceremonies. Last night, video artist Elizabeth Price snapped up the £25,000 award from Jude Law (as if that wasn’t prize enough!) with her probing and immersive exploration into consumer culture. A worthy winner.

We can’t think of a more fitting recipient for Michael Jackson’s costumes than Lady Gaga. The theatrical princess of pop has just bought up 55 pieces from the singer’s collection at Julien’s Auctions last week.

Our favourite French actress Marion Cotillard will be bringing her Parisian savoir faire to a sparkling new design for the Lady Dior bag. An actress regularly papped on the red carpet in Christian Dior’s creations, the collaboration comes as little surprise. Torn between a “a rock and roll type or something extremely simple,” as she told Vogue, we have no doubt that whatever the result, we will want it!
